Abstract:
Pressures from politicians and the public have to greater demands for media accountability. Moreover, the growing structural changes in the media landscape have also challenged existing notions of how media should relate to and be responsive to the public. These changes include media concentration, commercialization, fiercer competition, an increasing fragmented public, and the advent of new media. By means of an in-depth, multiple case-study focused on three leading news organizations, this dissertation looks into how the Dutch media are responding to these increasing pressures in terms of accountability and responsiveness.
