Zijn dit wanhoopspogingen van een journalistiek die compleet de weg kwijt is, of logische innovaties van een industrie die zichzelf opnieuw moet uitvinden?\u00a0Dat was de vraag in de VAKWERK-workshop Hype, hope of humbug. <\/p>\n<p>Na een introductie over innovatiestrategie\u00ebn bij regionale media in de VS, onderzochten deelnemers zelf\u00a0&#8216;extreme&#8217;\u00a0media-innovaties. Op zoek naar het antwoord op de vraag of we te maken hadden met een hoopvolle initiatief, een hype of flauwekul. De innovatieve journalistieke projecten die voorbij kwamen markeren op dit moment de grenzen van de media-innovatie. <\/p>\n<p>Narratively is een lokale website die zich richt op het vertellen van de verhalen van \u2018gewone\u2019 New Yorkers. Elke dag verschijnt er \u00e9\u00e9n achtergrondverhaal of video. Bloggers en documentairemakers werken vrijwillig mee. De site draait nu nog volledig op crowdfunding, maar onderzoekt mogelijkheden om exclusieve bijeenkomsten of betaalde rondleidingen door de stad te organiseren.<\/p>\n<p>Een ander voorbeeld was het Newsroom Caf\u00e9 van The Register Citizen, waar inwoners mogen aanschuiven en meebeslissen bij de redactievergaderingen van de lokale krant. En het ging nog over de Star Ledger, een krant in Newark die televisie maakt. Televisie waarmee een <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2011\/04\/the_star-ledger_njcom_earns_ny.html\">Emmy is gewonnen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Een vierde voorbeeld was Narrative Science, een softwarebedrijf dat nieuwsberichten kan laten schrijven door computerprogramma\u2019s op basis van een beperkte set data.
