Voor een onderdeel hiervan breng<\/strong><strong>\u00a0ik in kaart hoe de wensen van adverteerders in de dagbladenmarkt veranderden vanaf 2000. Mijn verzoek aan &#8217;the crowd&#8217; (dat bent u dus): geef me de gouden tip!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Onlangs las ik <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lapofilistrucchi.com\/uploads\/8\/9\/2\/7\/8927195\/gabszewicz_laussel_and_sonnac2001_eer.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> dit opmerkelijke citaat uit 1992 van <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ben_Bagdikian\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ben Bagdikian<\/a>, de Amerikaanse <em>Pentagon-Papers<\/em>-journalist van de Washington Post:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>&#8220;As mass advertising grew, the liberal and radical ideas in editorials, in selection of news, and in investigative initiatives became a problem. If a paper wished to attract maximum advertising, its explicit politics might create a disadvantage. To obtain more advertising it needed readers of all political persuasions &#8230; The answer in the news was a technique called \u2018objectivity\u2019<\/em>.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bijna twintig jaar later schreef Cornelis van de Berg,\u00a0oud-uitgever van de gratis krant De Pers, iets vergelijkbaars in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bol.com\/nl\/p\/het-complot\/1001004008504300\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">zijn boek &#8216;Het Complot<\/a>&#8216;. Het ging over Metro, de gratis wereldkrant voor\u00a0<em>global brands <\/em>die \u00e9\u00e9n advertentiecampagne willen voeren in meerdere steden tegelijk.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201c<em>Gezien de verschillen tussen landen en culturen lukt het alleen om global brands in de krant te krijgen als Metro niet te links, niet te rechts, te populistisch of om het even wat is. Het lukt alleen als niemand er aanstoot aan kan nemen. Met andere woorden: als het een in alle opzichten kleurloos product is. Dat betekent: uitgeklede persberichten en een beetje entertainment<\/em>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Wat de Metro-lezer wilde deed er niet toe, aldus Van den Berg, want circa 90% van lezers kan het geen barst schelen wat ze als OV-reiziger toevallig voorgeschoteld krijgen.<\/p>\n<p>Deze twee citaten zijn behoorlijk oud, maar ze fascineren me omdat ze aangeven hoe de wens van adverteerders (indirect) invloed kan hebben op de inhoud van de krant en op objectiviteit in de journalistiek. Dat is ook wat ik wil bestuderen bij mijn onderzoek naar hoe krantenuitgever De Persgroep met haar (waarde)propositie reageerde op de veranderende vraag in de advertentie- en lezersmarkten.<\/p>\n<p>Dankzij het internet kregen uitgevers vanaf de jaren negentig veel meer zicht op wat de lezer leest of waar deze op klikt (dat is overigens absoluut niet altijd hetzelfde!). De meetbaarheid van het digitale lezersgedrag heeft niet alleen gevolgen gehad voor de inhoud van kranten, maar ook voor de wensen van adverteerders (denk aan: big data en targeted advertising).<\/p>\n<p>Staat objectieve entertainment voor de grote massa (clickbait) bovenaan de wensenlijst van online adverteerders? Of willen ze liever de niches bereiken waar lezers meer betrokken zijn (audience engagement)?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Heeft u het\u00a0antwoord op deze vragen?
