Research · Fact-checking reality: an experiential learning module

Numbers, data files and statistics are now part of the daily routine of journalistic editorial departments. It is important that journalists are able to make good numerical analyses, but research in data journalism education shows that students have a fear of numbers. In this project, we investigated, together with the journalism training programme, how education can remove that fear of numbers and stimulate working with number-driven data in journalistic productions. The project has led to an elaborate data learning line within the School of Journalism with a well-filled toolbox for students and teachers within the journalism training programme.
